Life Balance 5.7.16 with Gatekeeper support

Download:

Version 5.7.16 of Life Balance runs on Mavericks without need for an update.

The update was originially to provide Life Balance compatibility for changes introduced in Mountain Lion. The changes from version 5.6.15 are:

  • Signed with our Developer ID so that Mountain Lion’s Gatekeeper will recognize Life Balance as coming from a trusted source.
  • Sped up the loading of .LBD files with many places.

Gatekeeper is intended to protect Macintosh users from installing malicious software that they download from internet sources other than the App Store. This includes the Llamagraphics web store where we sell our Macintosh and Windows applications directly for your convenience when you discover Life Balance through a web search.

Life Balance has been digitally signed for some time, but it is now digitally signed with a certificate from Apple.

To pass through the Gatekeeper in Mountain Lion, our signature and Developer identity, Llamagraphics, Inc. is now registered with Apple. Apple knows we are trusted developers, and allows the application to run on Mountain Lion without popping up a warning or blocking the app. This also confirms that your copy of Life Balance has not been tampered with.

Because the Life Balance app for Macintosh is already on the App Store and is digitally signed, there is no update required yet for the version of Life Balance that we sell through the app store. When we release the next feature update for Life Balance to the App Store, that app will also be revised to be sure that it is “Sandboxed” to pass the additional tests to meet Apple’s criterion for well-behaved applications. At this time, we think that it will be more efficient for our development efforts to “Sandbox” the next upcoming post of Life Balance for Macintosh.

Additionally, in this release, we are including some optimizations for people who use many Places in Life Balance to speed up launching the Life Balance App.

Life Balance 5.7.16 for Windows

Download:

  • Better handling of imported calendar events that repeat only once.
  • Fixed desktop application to store some settings for Closed Places and the selected Place in the To Do list view in the same place that the iPhone app does, so that transferring files between the two maintains this setting.
  • Removed Palm conduit code from Windows project and installer.
  • Finished removing other Palm code from Windows build of LB.
  • Sped up loading of .LBD files with many places.
  • Fixed bugs in iPhone sync server on Windows where incorrect text encoding was being used for non-English text.
  • Several changes to make sure that creating/deleting/renaming places doesn’t corrupt the Place Pickers.

New Outlook to LBE converter posted

Download:

This small utility performs a one-time conversion of an Outlook task list to a Life Balance exchange file.

To use the utility, just download and unzip the attached archive. The utility does not need to be installed, it should run directly from the Outlook2LBE 1.2 folder.

This version of Outlook2LBE was built using .NET 4.0 client profile and Outlook 2010, but it should also work with earlier versions of Outlook.

Life Balance 5.6 (15) for Mac now available

Download:

We’ve just released Life Balance 5.6 (15) for Mac with support for Mac OS X Lion. Customers who have purchased a Life Balance license directly from Llamagraphics may download the new version from our web site. (Mac App Store customers should always get their updates from the Mac App Store.)

Because of changes to Apple’s developer tools, the requirements for this version of Life Balance are higher than before: an Intel Mac running 10.5 or later. Customers who have PowerPC Macs or are running 10.4 should continue to use their current version of Life Balance. The “Check for Updates…” command inside Life Balance will not automatically upgrade this version because of these new system requirements.

Life Balance 5.3.8 for Windows

Download:

This is the last version of Life Balance for Windows to support Palm HotSync. It also supports iPhone sync, so you can use it to transfer data from a Palm to an iPhone.

Note that Palm HotSync is problematic under Windows 7. See this support article from HP for details. We recommend that you install Palm Desktop and get it working before trying to add Life Balance to the mix.

When you install the Life Balance conduit, you have a choice of installing it for just the current user, or for all users. If the Life Balance conduit does not appear in the Palm HotSync manager, re-install the conduit using the other method.

Life Balance 5.3 for iPhone

Please note that Life Balance 5.3 will run on iOS 4,5,6, and 7,  and on the iPad, although we know that it is not optimized for the new interface in iOS 7, or for larger screens yet.  Additional updates are in the works including an iPad native version. (Delay was due to unavoidable family reasons. We appreciate your kindness and support as we get under way again now that storms have passed. Thanks!)

Life Balance 5.3 for iPhone is what is available now on the App Store. The current release notes:

  • Supports iOS 4, including fast app switching, background network operations, and high-res graphics
  • Added an “Outline” button to the task details view that navigates to that task in the Outline. (This button only appears when viewing the task details from the to-do list, agenda, or calendar views.)
  • Fixed a display error in the calendar when crossing a year boundary.
  • Fixed a crash on iOS 4 when trying to edit the calendar events for a task.
  • Fixed a problem where the importance and effort sliders were too long on the iPad, making them difficult to change.
  • Fixed a problem on iOS 4 where time pickers could use the wrong time zone.
